Playing Food

Project Description

Playing Food is an immersive interactive installation and digital game developed by the Hamburg-based design collective studioplayces in collaboration with children and youth. Co-produced for the Klima Biennale Wien and the KLIMASTRÖME Festival in Hamburg, the project merges physical art with digital exploration to address the ecological, cultural, and social dimensions of our food. Visitors use handcrafted, NFC-equipped clay models of the young participants‘ favorite dishes to select a recipe within the game. Players then navigate a virtual landscape using a familiar controller to gather the necessary ingredients and cook the dish, all while listening to audio recordings of the children sharing personal stories and climate insights about their chosen food. This results in a multi-sensory educational experience that positions the youth as active experts on a sustainable food culture.
